Memory Verses : 21 July 2014

The first memory verse I that stood out in my heart when I was reading the word yesterday was:

Matthew 6:19-20 which states “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal

These bible verses really stood out to me because a lot of people these days work so hard to make their humanly lives perfect, forgetting that we are all spiritual being having a human experience. ( In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 it states that we have a  spirit, soul and a body). Brothers and sisters merely working to make your human life better without the presence of God is sheer vanity. For it is better to be homeless and penniless with the presence of God that to have all the treasures of the earth and not know who God is.

In my view people invest all or too much of their time, money and energy they have into making their homes beautiful, driving the fanciest cars and trying to be the wealthiest (I am also guilty of this). There is no problem with having a beautiful home, driving the best car and being the wealthiest, however the problem occurs when people forget the source of all these things. Brothers and sisters you must realise that no matter who you are, where you came from, how wealthy you or your family  are, how educated you are, even what religion you are, God is the sources of all your success! God is the reason why you are where you are. Therefore work hard in life to receive what your heart desires but don’t ever forget to work harder for the Kingdom of God and to do the will of God for it is better for you to lose your life to Christ than to find your life to yourself because in Christ you have all you can ever ask or think of. Plus after all never forget that our physical body passes away. Death is inevitable for all, physical death is guaranteed for all that are born. It is when your physical body die that your spirit foes to the Father (or not). You see, the problem with death is that not only is it a certain event in all our lives, but we don’t know when it is. Death is usually unexpected. I don’t know if any of you watch crime shows such as the First 48 Hours but it’s one of my favourite shows and on all episodes I have watched, all the victims of murder never expected to die the day they died. They never expected that they won’t see tomorrow. As a matter of fact most of the victims had wonderful plans for the future. The saddest of episodes I watch on this show are the ones where the victim was a drug dealer or a drug addicted person and they had plans to change their life in the future or to get right with God, but they never had the chance and was killed thinking they still have a chance to change. How painful it is for me as a lover of Christ to know that there are people out there that are dying in sin when they had the chance to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. In Romans 6:23 the word of God says that “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Brothers and sisters, the time is NOW, time is running out. If you would like to be saved by Jesus Christ just say this prayer out loud and mean it with all your heart:

Prayer of Salvation:

Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge that I have sinned against you and that I am sorry for my sins and the life of unbelief that I have lived. Father please forgive me.

I believe that you sent your only begotten son Jesus Christ to shed is precious blood on the cross and he died for my sins. You said in your word in Romans 10:9 that “If we confess to the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead we shall be saved”.

Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul and with my heart I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Saviour and according to his word, right now I am saved.

Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. Lord transform my life so that I may bring glory and honour to you alone and not myself.

Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name amen.

Now that you are saved you need to join a bible based church and read the word of God daily. After joining the church you will also want to get water baptised to show your obedience to God. Water baptism is a symbol of your salvation from death. You were dead spiritually now you are alive through Jesus Christ our Lord. May God give you the thirst mentioned in Psalm 42:1 which states “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for you, O God“.

Book Review: Amazing power of faith by Merlin Carothers

Faith

Good evening guys ! I am sorry that I haven’t been posting as much, I am back at university so I haven’t really had the time to post!  Anyway I recently finished reading the book ‘Amazing power of faith’ by Merlin Carothers recently. When I bought the book I simply bought it because of it’s title, but I didn’t have many expectations of it.

This book is a really good book but I think the title is rather misleading as it wasn’t really discussing anything in regards to faith apart from the fact that we are saved by grace through faith. However I think it’s a great book for someone who has just been recently saved or for someone who is having a tough time in their walk with Christ especially regarding trials and temptations. As a child of God, trials and temptations will definitely come and sometimes when they do come you start doubting if you’re actually saved or not. In regards to temptations, we all fail sometimes and guilt comes knocking at our door and we then question that, if we are really saved and we really are children of God why then do we keep failing, and as a result we are then persuaded that we are going to hell. In this way I think if someone is going through a time of questioning, or a time of conviction do read this book because it will help you to put God’s word into perspective regarding temptations and trials.

The message which the book focused on was a true eye opener for me because as children of God I’m sure when we first got saved one of the first verses which was mentioned to you as you were accepting Christ was John 3:16  which states ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that WHOSOEVER BELIEVES in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ but a lot of people (or maybe just me) listen to the bible verse but overlook it and sort of think, well what next? So after being saved you still have the same temptations and you think, Lord, I keep making the same mistake, I keep falling into the same temptations, addictions and or sins. Through this some people will feel like, I’m not worthy to be called a christian and because I’m a sinner I’m going to hell and they completely give up. However these feeling and thoughts are from the enemy and I strongly believe that through reading this book and studying the bible verses it mentions, you will overcome!  Change your life today .

Stay Blessed.

The Christian Burden !

burden

God is the everlasting God. There is no other like him in ALL the universe. I just feel the need to encourage someone today ! Especially those that are having trouble with their walk with Christ. Take heart because if you stay trust in and wait upon God, he shall renew your strength, you will mount up with wings like eagles, you will run and not get tired, you will walk and not become weary. A lot of people don’t realise that this Christian voyage is the hardest thing you’ll ever go through in your whole life. As soon as you start believing in Christ the devil will try and attack you. The higher you go into the presence of God the more the devil will attack you. But be greatly encouraged because the battle has already been won and and children of God we hold the power ! Therefore fear no evil because our God is with us ! If our God is with us then whom then shall we fear ? Take hard and start making movements to save other people. Christians ! THE BURDEN IS OURS ! Do you understand what I am writing ? THE BURDEN IS OURS! Many, many, many are perishing ! Many are going to HELL ! Yet we know Christ and aren’t doing the best we can to save others. You know it breaks my heart because there are many people all over the world that have never heard of the name Jesus before. Many are in darkness and yet God can save them. It’s one thing dying without knowing God, but it’s another dying without knowing God because you chose to not know God. Let us do our part as the children of God and evangelise wherever we are whenever we can, because it is not us who save people, it’s the Spirit of the everlasting God. If we do our bit of introducing them to God, the Holy Spirit will take lead and if it’s that person’s time then they’ll get saved. Whatever you do, wherever you are never forget that the burden is ours, God saves people through us and our testimony among many other ways he saves people.

The tough times that you are going through shall be your testimony ! Through your testimony in Jesus name many shall come to Christ, many shall be able to overcome because you waited upon God and you overcame. Stay blessed and don’t forget that the burden is ours.

It is time to FLY! – Part II

Eagle-Flying4

Jeremiah 48:40 states “For thus says the Lord “Behold one shall fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against Moab” It is your time to fly!

It is said that eagles have great vision, because they have two sets of eyelids. The first set of eyelids the eagles has they use when they are resting and doing day to day activities. The second set of eyes in enable them to see perfectly through at least 3 miles during a storm. It is clear that the second sets of eyes are used for enhanced and long focusing. In this way, us as the children of God need to have vision like that of an eagle. During storms we need to have the vision of an eagle, we need to be able to see through and past the storm. Proverbs 29:18 says that “Where there is no prophetic vision, the people perish”. Vision for us is important because as a child of God, the devil will constantly try to pull you from the presence of God by giving you trials and temptations and it is a must that we have to see our way past these problems, we have to have enough vision to see ourselves overcoming the these trials and temptations because if we don’t, we will perish. In the book of Ephesians 1:18-19 Paul prayed that the eyes of the Ephesians would be opened so that they can see. In this way he wasn’t pray for physical vision he was praying for spiritual vision. Brothers and sisters we are all at different stages in this Christian walk. Ask yourself, what stage is your vision at? Maybe you see yourself going through the storm and coming out better than you were before, if this is you well done! Continue to endure, it is not in vain, be encouraged! Maybe you lack vision all together? Maybe you can see yourself passing through the same and just about coming out alive? Whatever stage you are at pray to God and ask him to take you to another level with your vision in this year. In the book of 2 Kings (Ch. 6) there was a Syrian king warring against Israel. This king had set his mind on seizing Elisha because he had been warning Israel about the plans of the Syrians. One night the Syrian king sent his armies to surround the city of Dothan where Elisha was. To people that didn’t have prophetic vision the situation was absolutely hopeless. Elisha’s servant panicked and in so many words asked Elisha, what are we going to do? In v16 Elisha said “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them”. In this way Elisha was speaking with prophetic vision and I’m sure the servant thought his master had gone crazy or something because physically from what he could see there weren’t many people on their side. This is when in v17 Elisha prayed saying “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see”. God answered his prayer and behold the young servant saw the mountain and it was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. In this way, if Elisha and his servant didn’t have spiritual vision by faith, the would have really thought that the situation was dire and because they wouldn’t have seen that they’d overcome the storm, they possibly may have given up? You see in this way spiritual vision is critical for us because without is we may not overcome battles that will take us a level higher in this walk with Christ. Brothers and sisters we labour for the kingdom of God, within the kingdom of God we are soldiers, soldiers know what their weapons are and how to use them. Don’t perish because of lack of vision when the bible warned you sternly about what happens to people who lack vision.

When eagles are flying they’re not like pigeons which constantly flap their wings as they’re flying. An eagle usually fleets twice before it soars. The eagle’s wings stay straight as it flies. Why is this? It is said that eagles are very heavy birds and by flapping their wings they will waste too much energy. Eagles save energy for the storm because unlike other birds, eagles don’t dodge storms, they face the storm and come out better at the other end. In this way brothers and sisters we need to think, how have we been wasting energy and time on things that will not profit us? Do you realise that every minute that God gave us we are answerable for? You know it kind of baffles me when people waste time or don’t stick to a plan that they have made for the day because for every minute that you have lost gossiping, or watching a useless show on tv, you could have done something productive for the kingdom of God. In 30 minutes of watching a show like Family Guy, you could have used that same 30 minutes to watch a life changing sermon on a Gospel channel. Don’t waste time people of God, I can’t stress enough how important time is in our lives. If you waste time doing something you were not meant to, I guarantee you that you’ll have to make up that time in some way or you’ll just continue wasting time. It’s like a with a secondary school student in school. In class they’re given time to work on different exercises, at the end they’d usually get homework which will in turn compliment the work they did in class. If a student spends time in class not doing the work, they’ll have to spend time at home doing the class work and then even more time doing homework. In this way time they spent doing class work maybe they were meant to be doing something else like reading a book for another subject or practising for sports, all of these things will need to be made up for in time and in turn it’s not shocking when something suffers, for example if the student is doing homework in turn for something else they may rush it because the time they’re using maybe time that they had intended for something else. In this way, the bible says there is time for everything, don’t waste time, be sure to balance your time and organise your day. Someone once told me that in a day we have 8 hours to sleep (that’s actually the recommended time for adults too), 8 hours to work and 8 hours to play/relax. In this way I encourage you not to waste time on useless tv shows, talking to friends that are going to pull you down and things of such. You know where you are wasting time, ask God to help you to plan your day. God gave us enough hours in a day to accomplish his will so don’t slack just because you didn’t plan your day.

When it comes to flying, eagles fly high anyway but when they’re just learning to fly they don’t fly at maximum altitudes. The older and more experienced they get the higher they fly. In this way as children of God the more mature and experienced in this Christian walk the higher we fly. The higher we fly the less anything concerns us because we’ll be closer to God than ever before. If you’ve ever been on a plane, it’s like this when the plane starts lifting off even though you’re high above the ground you can still see and even name some of the buildings you’re flying over, you can still that the object you’re looking at maybe a car or a bus. However the higher up you go the more the objects lose form and shape, you get so high into the sky that you can just about see that there’s something there, you can’t tell if it’s a bus or a building. You get so high that everything beneath you is so tiny and so insignificant. Likewise brothers and sisters the higher you fly into the presence of God the more things of the world are meaningless and insignificant to you. The troubles of the world are so far from you that even when a trial comes you won’t even care, you’ll just fly into the presence of God and you’ll know that regardless of the problem you’ll overcome it. Isn’t that amazing? Brothers and sisters we need to get to this stage. We have a problem in the kingdom of children of God that want to be eagles but they are scared of storms and trials. Let me tell you now, rejoice and rejoice again when you have a trial because if you overcome it, it will strengthen your character and it will take you to a higher altitude of flying. When trials come never, I repeat NEVER give your tears to the devil. Give your tears to God alone when you are in deep praise and worship. Have faith that God will take you through it unharmed.

Eagles go through a time of solitude, a time of separation from their friends and family. This is the time it reviews its energy and the way it is functioning. During this time the eagle only drinks water and it beats its beak on a rock until its beak falls of a new on regrows. If the eagle’s eyes are not functioning as best as they should the eagle looks directly into the sunlight so that the sunlight burns away all the impurities. In this way, the eagle is renewing itself through fasting. Brothers and sisters how to we expect to fly higher and higher if we don’t take time to fast and review our progress? Psalm 103:5 says “[God] who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagles” Through fasting and separating yourself, God renews you in the same way he renews the eagle. In Luke 4:2 Jesus fasted for 40 days and forty nights. If Jesus Christ had to fast for that long, brothers and sisters we have to fast too. If Jesus hadn’t fasted in those 40 days and 40 nights where he was being tempted by the devil who knows how the story would have ended up?

Did you know that eagles have pocked of oil under their wings? These pockets of oil in the sense of the children of God are compared with anointing oil. Usually when people are anointed in church, olive oil is used. The fact that olive oil is used is very significant because olives grow very well in dry desert like conditions. They grow where people think that nothing will grow there. In this way people of God, to be anointed you need to be willing to go through the desert. When we read the book of Luke 4:18 it says that “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me…” In this way Jesus himself was anointed. How did this come about? At the start of Luke 4, Satan tempted Jesus – just after Jesus had been filled with the Holy Spirit. After Jesus was tempted and he overcame, that is when he was anointed. Is this coincidental? No, it isn’t because you have to show that you have passed the test before you gain the qualification.

In this way brothers and sisters I shall finish of with Isaiah 40:28-31. Speak this bible verses into your life. We are eagles and we shall fly and soar like eagles.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you not seen? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the universe. He never grows weak or weary; no one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might he increases strength. Even youths will faint and grow weary and you men will fall in exhaustion, but those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.”

It is time to FLY !

Bald Eagle in flight.

Bald Eagle in flight.

It’s time to fly! Fly like an eagle! So a few weeks ago I was in Leicester at a women’s conference, for me it was the first of its kind that I have been to and I have to say it was really powerful and really moving spiritually.  This being said I thought I’d share with you all what was shared at this conference as I feel it will be helpful for everyone who is on a journey with Jesus Christ.

Theme bible verse: Deuteronomy 32:11 which says “As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings”.

It is said that in the bible, there are 34 distinct verses which compare or describe the children of God as eagles. Why does God compare us to eagles? God does not make mistakes so there has to be a reason as to why he compared us to eagles. Let’s explore this subject a bit more through the characteristics of an eagle compared to that of children of God.

An eagle is a bird which has no confusion about who it is. It separates itself from other birds. An eagle flies with other eagles. In this sense it is true what the world says, birds of a feather flock together. In this sense us as children of God are supposed to be separated. We are supposed to know who we are in the world and in Christ. We are not to be confused about who we are. Children of God should surround themselves with other children of God. You don’t see eagles flying with pigeons, or hanging around with ducks and geese. If you are an eagle you surround yourself with other eagles because eagles fly high, if you’re an eagle and you are friends with chickens and ducks, you behave like them, you are confused and you have lost your sense of direction. You as a child of God are meant to be flying at new heights, and on this note brothers and sisters, you need to analyse yourself. What type of bird are you on this walk with Christ? Are you an eagle? Are you a chicken? Are you an eagle hanging out with ducks? If you are already an eagle hanging out with other eagles you are very blessed! If you’re an eagle hanging out with chickens and ducks it’s time for you to soar and fly! If you’re a duck or chicken isn’t it time you translate to an eagle? Isn’t it time you start making changes in your life that will enable you to soar? It is time to try new heights! It is time to fly brothers and sisters! We are living in the end times it is time to know where you are going. Have you own sense of direction, be with people that will encourage you on your walk with Christ that will help you fly because I assure you, when the Lord comes and you were not flying at the height that the Lord intended you to, it won’t be a pleasant day for you.

How are pigeons and chickens fed? They wait for someone to throw them some bread of some kind of food. They don’t go and find their own food whereas eagles go and hunt for their own food. They don’t scavenge they go out in search of their own fresh food. Likewise brothers and sisters, food for us is the word of God. Pigeons and chickens wait to get their food at church on Sundays, whilst eagles go out in search of their own food daily. People of God don’t just wait for Sundays to go and feed your soul. Feed your soul every day; look for your own food daily by doing this you undoubtedly strengthen your own soul. Joshua 1:8 says “This Book of Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it”. Let me give you an example, as a human being most of us eat three times or more a day, through this we maintain our health, what if we were eating once a week? How week would we be? We would be beyond starved? Our vital organs won’t be operating as best as they should. Likewise, how do you expect to fly like an eagle which is feeding itself daily when you’re feeding yourself once a week? Brothers and sisters if we read the word of God daily like we feed our human bodies daily, how strong will we be spiritually? I myself am still struggling with this. This Christian walk is not an easy one but we have to persevere. Be encouraged because God has made us overcomers! Through feeding on the word of God on a daily basis, eventually we will fly like eagles. Eagles are ALWAYS on higher ground. It is rare to see an eagle on the ground like a chicken. The more we read the word of God the more we will fly meaning the higher we go til we get to the stage of simply flying a bit and the soaring higher and higher without any efforts. Brothers and sisters in the Christian walk you must never be content with the level that you are at. If you saved 2 souls last year, this year aim to save twice and many if not triple as many. God is a God of might, Job 9:4 says “He is wise in heart and mighty in strength who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?” The God of might is your father and you are his off spring and you are mighty in the land and you should be doing mighty things, you should be doing the impossible. With the power of God you can do impossible things, arise and soar like an eagle this is your time.

In this way I think it’s necessary that we discuss relationships which hinder our relationship with God. Brothers and sisters you have to realise that not everyone you call your friend is your friend. Us as children of God need to find people who will encourage us that we can also encourage, that we can share the word of God with, people who are going in the same direction as we are. In church they gave an example which went something like this: let’s say on person is standing on a chair (the Christian) and their friend or lover is standing on the ground. If each one of them were trying to bring each other to their own levels who is more likely to succeed? The person on the ground will more than likely achieve in bringing the person on the chair to the ground because it is easier to pull someone down that it is to lift someone up, in this way as Proverbs 12:26 says “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray”. The bible warns us sternly about relationships with unbelievers.  2 Corinthians 6:14 says that “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” – Through this verse it is clear that we need to be careful who we become yoked with, be careful who you become friends with, it is said if you want to know who someone really is, look at 5 of their closest friends and you will know their true characters, I don’t know how true this is but I know that when you become close friends with someone a soul tie is formed and the issue of soul ties is a very large one so we will discuss this in the future in a lot more detail. Romans 16:17-18 says “Now I urge you brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” Avoid those who cause divisions in church and even in everyday life. Be with like-minded people who are flying like eagles. Seek out future bearers who will take you where you want to be, not people who will constantly keep you in the past. People who live in the past have no hope of a future. They have no vision for the future and the bible warns us on people with no vision. Proverbs 29:18 says that “Where there is no revelation [or prophetic vision], the people cast of restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law”. People of God eagles have sharp vision. They look where they are going not where they are coming from. Don’t give up on your dreams just because you don’t see a way there. Take heart and take on the characteristics of an eagle! Eagles don’t give up they go through what they need to in order to complete the journey. Have spiritual vision!  Separate yourself from people that are not flying. Set high standards for yourself be a principled person. Separation will always come with consequences usually painful consequences. Through separation you leave your comfort zone. You leave what you once called home; you step into a whole different ball game, but take heart and know that this separation will only take you to a different level. How do you expect to succeed in flying if you don’t take the first jump that will test out your wings? As Deuteronomy 32:11 says “As an eagle stirs up its nest.” How does an eagles stir up its nest? It builds its nest high on top of some of the world’s tallest trees and as the eaglets grow up, the eagle starts pulling apart its nest so that when the time comes, the eaglets fall through the nest and begin flying. The eagle builds its nest on such high trees because it needs to teach its children to fly at high altitudes.
